Alphabet Tagalog (Baybayin)

Baybayin Script

Baybayin (also called Alibata) is a pre-colonial Philippine script widely used before Spanish colonization in the 16th century. It is an abugida where each character represents a consonant with an inherent 'a' vowel, modified by diacritics. It has 17 basic characters. Modern efforts are reviving its use — it is now taught in Philippine schools and featured on Philippine banknotes.
